At
60 feet wide and 286 feet tall, Salt Creek Falls flows as the second
tallest waterfall in Oregon and the strongest in the southern half
of the state. Located just six miles south of Willamette Pass on
Highway 58, Salt Creek Falls is a great place to stop and enjoy
a truly spectacular gift of nature. A short, well-marked drive off
Highway 58 takes visitors back to a large parking lot where they
can leave their vehicles while enjoying the falls and the surrounding
area.

A
very nice, wheelchair-assessible, paved path first guides visitors
to a viewpoint where they can see the top of the falls as it tumbles
off the cliff. This particular spot gives visitors a great understanding
of how powerful these falls really are as they stand just a few
feet away from the edge. The path then continues farther down and
over to the side of the falls where they can enjoy the full view
of this incredible, year-round waterfall.

Once
they reach this great viewpoint, the path becomes unpaved as it
winds down the side of the hill to the base of the falls. Visitors
who have the time and wish to get a full view from down by the creek
can hike to the bottom of the trail. For those who can handle the
hike down and back up, the view is more than worth it. They should
know, though, that given the strength and magnitude of this waterfall,
they'll be soaked when they get there!

In
addition, the parking area contains several picnic tables and other
smaller hiking trails for those who wish to make a day of it at
Salt Creek Falls. The trails are well-marked, and the atmosphere
is simply incredible. There is no day-use fee for this park either
so visitors are welcome anytime as they enjoy the mighty Salt Creek
Falls and its spectacular surroundings.
