At
the southern tip of the Oregon Coast, visitors get the chance to,
once more, see Oregon at its best in Brookings and its neighboring
town of Harbor. With several spectacular viewpoints sprinkled along
Highway 101 between Port Orford and
Brookings, visitors can easily find themselves stopping to take
in the view more often than actually driving while on this stretch
of highway along the gorgeous coastline. The drive into Brookings-Harbor
can take quite awhile on a great-weather day.

While
the weather in the Brookings area is predominantly mild, be it summer
or winter, it's not uncommon for fog to roll into the area between
Brookings and Port Orford, leaving many of these viewpoints with
very little to view. However, if visitors find themselves traveling
this section of Highway 101 during less-than-perfect weather, they're
encouraged to stop at some of the viewpoints anyway. As seen in
this picture, the fog can add just the right spice to an already
gorgeous area.

Taken
at Myers Beach, approximately 10 miles north of Brookings, this
photo (and the two others above) demonstrate just how gorgeous this
area really is. No matter what the weather may hold on any given
day, this viewpoint indeed offers some fantastic views. Between
the huge rocks and the lingering fog, visitors can often get lost
in the quiet mystique of the area. At the same time, if they are
lucky enough to visit the area during the normally sunny weather,
they're encouraged to bring good walking shoes and explore the many
naturally beautiful sights in Brookings-Harbor.

Along
with spectacular beaches like Myers Beach, great kite-flying at
Harris Beach State Park, and fantastic tidepooling in Boardman Park,
Brookings-Harbor is home to the farms that grow nearly 90% of America's
Easter lillies each year. Visitors can see the fields blooming with
these seasonal favorites when driving between Brookings-Harbor and
Crescent City,
California in the early summer. They are indeed quite a sight
to see. Put simply, the towns of Brookings and Harbor offer something
for everyone and together provide a great last stop on a north to
south Oregon coast trip.
